Eastonite of the Week: Robert (Bob) DeVellis

Patch talks to new co-president of the Easton Community Center.

Eastonite of the Week: Robert (Bob) DeVellis

Name: Robert DeVellis

Occupation: Partner in law firm of Blair & Potts, Easton Democratic Town Committee, ECC board co-president, Alternate Member of the Easton Planning and Zoning Commission.

Family: Wife, Melissa, and three children Jenna, 11, Joey, 9 and Nicky, 7.

How long have you lived in Easton?

Six years.

What do enjoy most about your work?

The personal interaction with clients.

What is the most challenging thing about your work?

The business aspect of the firm, and managing people.

What Easton organizations are you involved with?

I coach for Easton Little League and I have managed my sons soccer teams for Easton Redding United.

What does the DTC have planned for the upcoming election?

We have great candidates for Board of Finance and Region 9 and Town Clerk. If elected, they would have a positive impact on the future of Easton.

How hard is it to have a strong voice in a predominantly Republican

It is not hard, if you are true to your beliefs. Unfortunately, my experience has been that a majority of Easton residents vote strictly based on a candidate's party affiliation rather than on his or her qualifications.

What is going on at the ECC and what do Eastonites need to know about it?

The ECC recently merged our travel basketball program with Redding to
form REBA (Redding-Easton Basketball Association). In addition, our
Teen Center Director, Billy Barrett, is reviving our Teen Center Committee and they have a lot of great community service projects and events planned for the coming year.  In addition, the ECC will be holding a fundraiser on November 5, Pub Night, which we have had an incredible amount of positive feedback, and promises to be a fun night. So it is a very exciting time at the ECC.

What is your favorite thing about Easton?

The way Easton residents pull together and help one another during difficult times. My family is blessed to have so many great friends who are always willing to lend a helping hand.
