Raymond Sanzone faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Redding Man Arrested on $469K of Fraud

A 44-year-old energy broker was arrested Monday and charged with cheating private schools and municipalities out of $469,000 by artificially inflating commissions, the Danbury News Times reports.

According to the News Times, Raymond Sanzone was "charged with two counts of racketeering, three counts of first-degree larceny and one count of second-degree forgery, crimes that carry a maximum term of 20 years in prison and up to $15,000 in fines."

Sanzone, president of Turri Associates, was allegedly contracted to collect a commission of one mill (1/10th of one cent) per kilowatt hour to obtain cheaper energy rates for the schools and municipalities he represented. It as later discovered he was collecting a commission of 2.5 mills.

He was released on $75,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 19.
