Crash Severs Telephone Pole, Car Bursts into Flames in Westport

The one-car crash occurred just after midnight Saturday, and temporarily shut down the Post Road East.

Westport, CT - A one-car crash just after midnight Saturday near 485 Post Road East in Westport severed a telephone pole, according to Westport Fire Capt. Kenneth Lombardi.

After crashing into the pole, the vehicle burst into flames but the driver was able to get out of the car uninjured. The Post Road East was temporarily shut down while police investigated and power was restored.

"Multiple Engine companies and the Command Car responded to the totally engulfed car fire and acted quickly to extinguish the fire and avoid the power lines and pole from becoming further involved," wrote Lombardi in a statement.
