Five Ways To Save Some Cash

This week's installment of Frugal Family includes lower energy costs and grocery discounts.

Five Ways To Save Some Cash

If you’re looking for ways to save money, then you’ve come to the right place.  This week's Frugal Family highlights five ways to help you stick to your family budget.

You're a big part of this column. Let us hear about the deals you've seen – or those you’re looking for. Just add them to the comment box below.

Remember to check with the merchant for additional conditions:

1. THE RUGGED BEAR on Route 7

Deal: Still have some more of the  kids' ski season left? Or want to stock up for next year's ski season? The Rugged Bear in Redding still has winter inventory left for kids of all ages. Save up to 60% on ski and snowboard clothes, jackets, pants and accessories.

Good through: Until supplies run out.

2. NEW CANAAN AND RIDGEFIELD SKI AND SPORT OUTLET

Deal: Ridgefield's best kept secret for ski and outdoor sporting attire. Located across the street from the Little Pub, this outlet has deep discounts on everything you would find in the retail stores. They have limited hours during the week and on Satudays so call the main store for details.

3. DISCOUNT ON DINNER AND ENTERTAINMENT

Deal: Click here for a coupon for buy one get one free dinner at the Rio Border Cafe in Norwalk. The best part? They provide free, live entertainment in the form of mariachi-style singers who really cater to the kids (so Mom and Dad can actually focus on enjoying their meal!). Singers perform Thursday through Saturday starting at 6 p.m., and Sunday starting at 5 p.m.

Good through: No expiration date listed on the coupon

4. GROCERY SAVINGS

Deal: Stock up on cereal, soup, and pasta. on Connecticut Avenue has Kellog’s cereal on sale for $1.99 per box, Ronzoni Healthy Harvest pasta is ½ price, and Progresso Traditional Soup is being offered at 4 for $5 (and there's almost always a coupon in the paper). Total savings could add up to almost $5, and that’s for only three of the many sales there this week.

Good through: Saturday, Feb. 19.

5. LOWER YOUR ENERGY BILLS

Deal: Click here for Direct Energy’s "42 Energy Efficiency Tips." According to the web Site, “Not only can these efficiency tips save you money, but they help the environment as well.”

Good through: Until we start relying on alternate sources of energy
