Who Owns all of River Road? Not Wilton

Wilton’s gas pipeline project will take much longer than expected because River Road does not entirely belong to Wilton.

First Selectman William Brennan revealed at Tuesday night’s at the r that the town did not own all of River Road, explaining that “three sections” of the road actually belong to a number of different owners. Further cluttering the issue is that at least one portion of the road falls under a condominium complex’s property, and “multiple financial institutions are involved” in claiming ownership to these areas, which are central to the laying of a Yankee Gas pipeline through Wilton.

Without rights to dig up the road, the pipe line plan must be halted until these easement issues are dealt with. At Monday night’s special Board of Selectmen meeting (where the selectmen formally announced from the upcoming budget) Brennan said it would take “four to six months” as a “best case” scenario to clear up the easement problems.

Brennan was out of the office yesterday and not available for comment, according to his assistant.
