Riders Stuck on Red Line Train After it is Taken Out of Service

The operator of the train responded with annoyance when he was informed people were still on his train.

Confusion reigned Friday night when dozens of passengers were stuck on a Red Line Metro train after it was taken out of service with them still on board.

Matthew Swanson, who uploaded a video on YouTube of his predicament, said that the operator of the train had told everyone to get off the train due to an equipment malfunction, as first reported by WTOP. Most people got off, but Swanson said in the video that everyone on his train had been told by a man in a suit that everything was fine and to stay on the train, so they did.

However, the train continued to roll through several stops, prompting Swanson to press the emergency call button to inform the operator that they were still on the train.

"I made an announcement the train was out of service," the operator responded tersely.

After rolling through the Gallery Place stop, a Metro employee came through to make sure the doors would open for the Judiciary Square stop, allowing everyone to get off.
