Winter Storm To Shut Down MetroAccess Service Monday Afternoon

The nor'easter that could dump 4 to 8 inches of snow in the Washington DC area means MetroAccess service will be suspended late Monday.

WASHINGTON, DC — Predictions of the looming winter snowstorm that could dump 4 to 8 inches of snow inside the Beltway have Metro officials announcing paratransit service will be suspended at 4 p.m. Monday and all day Tuesday as the nor-easter brings one last winter blast to the region. A winter storm watch has been issued for much of northern Virginia from 7 p.m. on Monday, March 13, to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14.

All MetroAccess service for customers with disabilities will be suspended as of 4 p.m. Monday, March 13, and all day Tuesday, March 14, authorities said. There is no timeline for service restoration. The MetroAccess call center is contacting affected customers to reschedule trips as needed. Customers can stay updated by signing up for MetroAlerts for MetroAccess.

The Capital Weather Gangsays snowfall amounts will likely range from 8 inches or more just north of Washington, D.C., to as little as 2 inches southeast of the city. Inside the Beltway, expect 4 to 8 inches.

The National Weather Service said at least 5 inches of snow may fall in a 12-hour period — with significantly higher accumulations possible in some areas. Heavy snow may make roads impassable and lead to power outages due to the weight of snow on tree limbs and power lines.

The Winds are expected to be 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph, and temperatures will be in the low 30s, according to the National Weather Service.
