Poston stayed about 1,250 votes ahead of his two opponents. Unofficial results on Tuesday evening were:

Marianne Barnebey 5,414 (28.06%)
Richard O'Brien 6,291 (32.61%)
Wayne H. Poston 7,586 (39.32%)

Poston said he was greatful to win a fourth term in office so that he "could finish" some of his projects in the city. He said he was pleased given that "incumbents are not necessarily in favor."

He credited the work of his supporters, especially those in the fire department who campaigned for him.
