Think You're Funny? Hone Your Comedy Skills During a Workshop

The workshop will be held at the Life Enrichment Center, 9704 N. Boulevard in Forest Hills.

Think You're Funny? Hone Your Comedy Skills During a Workshop

This just in from the Life Enrichment Center:

Welcome to Stand-up Comedy, a new introductory workshop for adults at the Life Enrichment Center that will teach students about the writing process, help them develop and perform their own material in class and introduce students to establish comedians who have years of stage experience.

The workshop will be led by Michael Murillo, a local writer who has produced articles for Sun Belt Newspapers and editorials for The Tampa Tribune. He also writes online content for Patch and Creative Loafing, and has performed stand-up since 2009 in venues such as Tampa Improv, Snappers and Tampa Pitcher Show.

This workshop is for people who want to have fun and try something different. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, September 18 from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Life Enrichment Center, 9704 N. Boulevard.

Cost is $25. Call in advance to register. A six-week class (optional) will follow for those who wish to build their own skills.

“Stand-up comedy offers practical benefits for everyone from retirees, stay-at-home parents and anybody who wants to tap into their creative side in a fun and different way," says Murillo. “The writing process helps people find humor in everyday events, and provides a new perspective on life by seeing things the way a comedian sees them. Students will also get to ask the professionals questions and learn about the challenges and work that a career in comedy requires.”
