Infant Found Dead In Clearwater Home

BREAKING: The 6-month-old infant had no obvious signs of injury, detectives say.

CLEARWATER, FL — A 6-month-old infant was found dead at his home in Clearwater Friday morning, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives say they were called to a residence in the 400 block of Acorn Court for an unresponsive infant around 8:50 a.m. Friday.

According to detectives, the infant, identified as Elijah Calabrese, was put to bed in his crib around 12 a.m. His 32-year-old mother checked on the child multiple times throughout the night and eventually left the bedroom to go sleep another room in the house. Detectives say the father remained in the same room as the infant and around 6 a.m. he took him out of the crib and brought him into bed with where they fell asleep together.

The father took the infant out of the crib because the infant became fussy, detectives say.

When the father woke up in the morning, he found the baby lying face down on the bed and unresponsive.

The parents called 911 and performed CPR on the child till paramedics arrived. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives say there were no obvious signs of injury to the infant and he was being treated for a preexisting medical condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
