One of the things folks love about Dunedin is the sense of community spirit.

"It's the people that make the community that we all love," as a reader () so eloquently pointed out when explaining .

It's not surprising we found no shortage of good people spearheading charitable events this week (if you don't believe us, take a look for yourself). So in an effort to help spread the love, we gathered some quick and effortless ways to help your neighbors today and through the weekend.

How will you give back?

1) Dine out in Dunedin Thursday. That's right, if you eat at any of the five participating restaurants today, 25 percent of your meal cost goes to HIV and AIDS service organizations. We all have to eat, right? (Here's .)

2) Get rid of that old rocking chair. A Dunedin Relay for Life Team is seeking rocking chair donations by May 2. The team's idea is to help make the all-night walking event accessible to those with limited mobility. With rocking chairs, those who have trouble walking, can "rock" instead. (Here's a .)

2) Donate to the Patch food drive. Six businesses are helping Patch collect non-perishable items. Our goal is to collect 2,000 pounds of food for Feeding America Tampa Bay. To help, drop your donation at any of these shops or restaurants during their business hours (Also, here's a ):

4) Empty your spare change tray. Young students with  is raising money for a mission trip by collecting change donations outside of area Walgreens stores on Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Here's ).

5) Get out this weekend. Basically, if you join in any of the fun this weekend, you can leave knowing you helped a good cause. Here's some of what's on tap:

  • The  is raising money for the Dunedin For Youth Scholarship Fund, which helps families in need take part in Dunedin Parks & Recreation programs.
  • on Saturday is benefitting Retired K9 Heroes (Admission is $6 for people, $3 for dogs).
  • A in Dunedin is raising money for special therapy for , a toddler with cerebral palsy and daughter of a Dunedin firefighter.
