Keys to Awesomeness:  Purcell has played in a variety of different bands and venues in the Dunedin and Clearwater area, ranging from the more well-known Hip Abduction, Superfly Crew and Blue Collar Whiskey, to the more up-and-coming Crossroads Band and Oceanstone Groove. He owns and operates a self-run, non-profit indie record label (Live Creation Records) and holds an anthropology degree from the University of South Florida.

How did you get your start with music?

"I started playing in bands with friends in grade school and taking guitar lessons from virtuoso Nic Gaetano in Cape May, N.J."

What's your favorite Dunedin venue to play?

"I really enjoy playing at the  , and I love their beer!"

 What keeps you doing it?

"My passion and love for music is what keeps my drive alive."

 Who are some of your inspirations?

"Jerry Garcia, Duane Allman, Jimi Hendrix, Derek Trucks, Jimmy Page, Trey Anastasio, Chuck Garvey, Johnny Greenwood & Dimebag Darrell, to name a few."

How has social media played a part?

"The Internet has helped me get my music out to the public in a much easier way."

 What advice would you give musicians just starting out?

 "Practice, write and jam. Don't give up, and keep it fun! Stay postive and enjoy life!"

Purcell plays with the Crossroads Band tonight (May 27) at nearby Clearwater's Brown Boxer Pub & Grille, 483 Mandalay Ave. (in the Pelican Walk Shopping Center). Show runs from 10 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.
