Munchie's Grill & Bar, a hot spot off Indian Rocks Road that drew more attention for its clientele and police reports than its food and drink, is being replaced with a new restaurant.

An Orlando restaurateur is opening  Anthony’s Pizzeria, an Italian eatery, in the old Munchies location at 3534 Adrian Ave., according to an employee.

Arthur Kaba said the owner of the franchise is planning to open six locations in the area, including one on East Bay Drive, in the near future.

“These guys who own the company mean business. They do everything the right way,” Kaba said as he was renovating Munchie's last week.

“They own 19 restaurants in the Orlando area, and everything is about quality. They know what they’re doing. That’s why they have success.”

Kaba said they hope to have the first restaurant, which will feature pizza, Italian dishes plus beer and wine, open within a few weeks.

He also said they are aware of the problems that plagued Munchie's over the years; Kaba said he has been fielding questions from concerned neighbors since he began working on the building a few weeks ago.

“People ask if we’re going to be a bar and I say no, it’s going to be a nice sit-down restaurant,” he said.

“This is just what this neighborhood needs.”
