Fans of Taco Bus no longer have to drive all the way down to Hillsborough Avenue for a proper burrito or papos plato.
The restaurant chain whose rise from humble beginnings 20 years ago is well-documented will open its fourth location, at 2320 E. Fletcher Ave., on June 7. The existing locations are in Seminole Heights, downtown Tampa and St. Petersburg.
“It’s close to USF,” Aviva Bowman, director of marketing for Taco Bus, said when asked why the restaurant decided to spread north.
The Fletcher Avenue site occupies space where Taqueria Monterrey — a sister restaurant — used to operate.
Bowman said the eatery has a “bit of a different concept” in that it will have family style seating.
“People tend to talk more and meet each other more that way,” said Bowman, adding the setup should be a hit with local college students who will also receive a Bulls Country discount.
Aside from the seating, "Taco Bus USF" will be like all of the other Taco Bus restaurants and will have the same menu offerings. Pieces of an actual bus have been integrated into the space. Bowman said customers will walk inside and then up to a counter where they will place their orders through a bus window.
In addition to authentic Mexican food, beer will also be for sale — a bucket of five bottles for $10, to be exact.
Opening day anticipation has already started building on Taco Bus’ Facebook page. Beth Coger Casey wrote, “Can't wait for the new location. Currently experiencing withdrawl (sic) symptoms. Not good.”
Toby Srebnik wrote, “Glorious news!”
