You might be surprised at the wide variety of items that people are accused of pilfering from Palm Harbor retail stores in recent days, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
Jewelry is not a surprising target for thieves, but how about Prilosec and Allegra?
Deputies say on April 12, Hollie Zak, 28, of Palm Harbor stuffed four boxes of Prilosec and four boxes of Allegra into her purse then walked out of the Sweetbay Supermarket at 1360 Tampa Road without paying for the medicines. A surveillance camera recorded the theft.
Deputies say Zak told them that she stole the medicines to support her drug habit. She had planned on giving the Prilosec and Allegra to her drug dealer in exchange for Roxys. This was Zak's fourth theft arrest, according to an arrest affidavit. She was charged with felony petit theft and booked into the Pinellas County Jail on $2,000 bond.
Strolling With Baby Items
Authorities say Palm Harbor roommates Christina Gutierrez, 26, and Sabrina Hall, 22, brought two small children with them when they shoplifted more than $300 worth of items using a baby stroller. On April 15, the pair placed the clothing, jewelry and baby items in the stroller, then walked out of the Palm Harbor Walmart located at 35404 U.S. 19, according to an arrest affidavit.
Deputies say the women admitted to stealing the items. Both were charged with felony grand theft and booked into the Pinellas County Jail. Hall was released on her own recognizance. Bond was set at $2,000 for Gutierrez.
Sushi, Batteries and a Spatula?
Tanya Loy, 27, of Palm Harbor, told deputies she stole sushi, a four-pack of double-A batteries and a metal spatula because she was hungry and did not have any money. Loy is accused of stealing the items from the Publix store at 35439 U.S. 19 around noon on April 12, according to an arrest affidavit. She was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on one charge of petit theft with bond set at $250.
Woman Walks With Water Filters
Jennifer Taal, 22, of Palm Harbor is accused of stealing a SharkBite water pressure regulator, a PuriClean IV water filter and a refrigerator water filter from The Home Depot at the intersection of Curlew Road and U.S. 19 on April 16.
Deputies say Taal admitted to stealing the items valued at $143.57 by putting them in her purse. She was arrested on one charge of retail theft and released on her own recognizance from the Pinellas County Jail.
Beer Run Lands Man in Jail
Deputies say on April 4, Christopher Cirello, 33, of Oldsmar walked out of the Publix Grocery Store at 33343 U.S. 19 with three 18-packs of Heineken's beer without paying for it.
The theft was also recorded by video surveillance cameras. On April 15, Cirello was arrested for stealing the beer valued at $64.57. He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail and charged with retail theft with bond set at $150.
