Brandon Man Dies After Having Medical Emergency While Driving
A Brandon man has died after having a medical emergency Thursday morning, June 14, while driving on State Road 60 in Plant City.

PLANT CITY, FL – A Brandon man has died after having a medical emergency Thursday morning, June 14, while driving on State Road 60 in Plant City.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Richard S. Tennent, 51, of Brandon was traveling west on S.R. 60 near Horton Road in a 2007 Honda at 9:15 a.m.
Rafael C. Benitez, 44, of Pembroke Pines was driving his 2006 Lexus behind Tennent and attempted to pass Tennent in the inside lane. The front left side of Tennent’s car collided with the right rear of Benitez’ car as he was passing.

Following the impact, Benitez slowed down and Tennent’s car struck him from behind. Benitez came to a stop but Tennent’s car entered the grass median in the center of the road and continued traveling several hundred feet before stopping.
Tennent was transported to South Florida Baptist Hospital. The highway patrol said he suffered a medical emergency that led to the crash. He died at the hospital.
