Hummer Overturns On University Parkway

A 37-year-old Sarasota man is being treated for serious injuries after his Hummer overturned on University Parkway Monday evening.

Florida Highway Patrol responded to the single-car crash at 8:58 p.m. near University Parkway and Whitfield Avenue where thy found Douglas Wayne Cason inside his 2005 Hummer.

The Hummer traveled eastbound on University Parkway in the right lane then veered off the road onto the grassy shoulder that contained a culvert, according to Highway Patrol. As the Hummer entered the culvert, the driver attempted to steer back onto the road, but overcorrected, causing the right side tires to sink into the grass, causing the Hummer to flip multiple times before landing on its roof in the culvert, according to Highway Patrol.
