Boat Catches Fire In Sarasota Bay Saturday; Nine Rescued

The boat fire broke out Saturday morning near the 10th Street boat ramp, police said. All passengers were brought safely to shore.

SARASOTA, FL — Nine people were rescued from a Sarasota Bay boat fire Saturday morning, Sarasota police shared on Facebook.

The 24-foot vessel was about 350 yards west of the 10th Street boat ramp when the fire broke out, police said.

All nine passengers were rescued and brought to shore safely. There were no injuries, police said.

Citizens assisted the Sarasota Police Department’s Marine Patrol Unit, Sarasota County’s Emergency Services and the town of Longboat Key with the rescue, police said.

Because of Saturday’s storms, removal of the boat might not be possible until Monday.
