Trauma Kits Hoped To Save Lives In Sarasota

SARASOTA, FL — Gunshot and puncture wound victims in Sarasota may enjoy a greater chance of survival courtesy of a donation made to the police department Monday.

The Sarasota Police Foundation delivered 160 trauma kits to local police in memory of Sarasota Police Department Volunteer Ambassador Noah Williams. Williams’ widow, Mary Jean Williams, donated the $7,000 needed to purchase the kits to the police foundation.

Each kit is designed to fit into the cargo pocket of an officer’s uniform pants, the police department wrote in an email to media. The kits are meant to “treat an on-the-spot gunshot or deep puncture wound.” Each kit includes an instruction card, medical gloves, gauze, compression bandage and a tourniquet. Officers will receive in-house training before receiving their individual kits, the police department email noted.

“The fact that the Sarasota Police Foundation has been able to raise the funds to be able to provide trauma kits for our officers is very much appreciated,” Chief Bernadette DiPino said in a statement. “The Sarasota Police Foundation was established to keep our community and our officers safe and these trauma kits will do just that.”
