Looking for a little something different this Halloween season? Why not combine the holiday and breast cancer awareness by purchasing a pink pumpkin at Sweetbay Supermarket.

This year marks the first fall harvest of pink pumpkins, a variety known as Porcelain Doll F1. Ceated by DP Seeds, LLC, a hybrid seed company, have pale pink skin with orange flesh.

DP Seeds has spent several years perfecting its hybrid pumpkins to create the pink color. Sweetbay is among the first stores to carry the pumpkins.

The non-profit Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation will donate a portion of sales from the pink pumpkins to breast cancer research.

“Sweetbay is excited to offer these fun gourds,” said Nicole LeBeau, spokesperson for Sweetbay Supermarket.  “Our goal with these pink pumpkins is to brighten our shoppers’ homes and help make their fall season memorable.”

Pink pumpkins will be available at Sweetbay Supermarkets through October.

“Pink pumpkins are a fun way to add a twist to your home decor this fall,” said Kylie Italiano, owner Casa Nova, a Tampa, FL interior design and home furnishings store.  “They can be dressed up alongside china and candlesticks for a table centerpiece that is elegant and refined, or combined with natural woods and organic linens for rustic and chic styling.”

Pink pumpkins retail for approximately $6.99 for a 22-24 pound pumpkin.
