Tampa Police: 'Security Has Been Increased'

The agency said it is tightening security around major events in the wake of Friday's terrorist attacks in Paris.

The Tampa Police Department has issued a statement following Friday night’s terrorist attacks in Paris that left more than 100 people dead and many more injured.

Agency officials acknowledged receiving a number of inquiries about whether it plans to bolster security at major events within the city. The answer is yes, but in a way event-goers may not notice.

“In light of yesterday’s attacks in Paris, TPD has been in communication with federal agencies as well as local law enforcement,” the agency’s statement said. ”Security has been increased, but members of the public who attend the events should not experience unusual delays or observe anything other than what appears to be normal security.”

Agency spokesman Stephen Hegarty said TPD works with other law enforcement agencies in the area to develop and implement security plans for major events. Specific details about those plans and what increased measures have been implemented are not being released.

While U.S. officials have said there are no credible threats against the country at this time, law enforcement agencies across the country are stepping up security in the wake of the attacks. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attacks in Paris, according to CNN.
