As Many As 10 Vehicles Damaged in St. Pete Fire

A vehicle's engine caught on fire Saturday morning, spreading flames to others within a parking garage.

The St. Petersburg Police Department spent early Saturday morning investigating a rather unusual fire that broke out in a parking garage.

According to the agency, a multiple-vehicle fire broke out when a single vehicle pulled into the garage. That vehicle, police wrote in an email to media, had an active engine fire going on that its driver was not aware of.

Once inside the 360 Central Ave. garage, the motorist noticed flames and smoke coming from the vehicle’s engine.

β€œWhen the vehicle driver opened the hood, the fire began to spread out of control eventually consuming the vehicle as well as three additional vehicles,” the email stated.

As many as 10 additional vehicles suffered fire or heat damage, the agency reported, and significant smoke damage was done to the second level of the garage.
