Council Could Postpone Redevelopment Decision—Again

If you’re looking forward to hearing whether or not the Temple Terrace City Council will allow 214 apartments to be built in the downtown redevelopment area, don’t get your hopes up just yet.

Although the to continue the public hearing and postpone its decision until March 20, council members could extend the hearing—again.

“The best answer I can give you is that there’s a strong chance the public hearing will be continued until April 3,” wrote Mike Dunn, the city’s public information officer, in an email response to Patch asking for clarification on the issue. “If that’s the case, then a final vote on the redevelopment issues likely won’t take place on March 20.”

So, why would council members extend the hearing?

“The proposed modifications to the master development agreement are still being assessed, and the city is still working with the developer on those,” Dunn explained.

The city and the developer, Vlass Temple Terrace, are working to come to an agreement on the residential aspect of the project. Council members, city officials and residents voiced concerns on Feb. 16, such as residential versus retail on the ground floor, rental versus owner-occupied units, and the amount of parking spaces.

Last month, would take place at the . At this point, Dunn said, that is still the plan. The meeting is set to start at 6 p.m.
