The City reopened Lightfoot Park yesterday as Temple Terrace's first , accommodating children with special needs.

The park has been a part of the City for more than 40 years. James Chambers, the City's director of Leisure Services, told those at that he remembers playing at the park when he was a kid. The park had one of the best slides in the City, second only to the slide in Bonnie Brae Park, he said.

Temple Terrace resident Joseph Stanko was also at the rededication. He and his wife, Joan, live in the neighborhood served by the park and have been watching the installation of the new equipment.

Joseph said he was excited about the playground's new look and was looking forward to bringing his grandchildren, Gabrial, 6, and Breanna, 3, to the park.

Gabrial and Breanna will be the second Stanko generation to use the park, Joseph explained, as his three sons visited it regularly with his parents.

"We are just happy to have it reopened for this next generation of young children in the area," he said.

Here are two photos that Joseph submitted.

The first was taken in 1977 and depicts Stanko's son, Mark A. Stanko, with Mark's grandmother and Joseph's mother, Mary Lees-Stanko.

The second was taken circa 2008 and shows Gabrial playing on the park's old equipment with his grandmother and Joseph's wife, Joan.
