Albers was the chief sponsor of Senate Bill 89 earlier this year, which encourages all instructional material purchased by a local board of education to be in a digital or electronic format by July 1, 2020.

“I am passionate about improving the technology available for classroom instruction and improving the educational opportunities offered to our students so we can become a national leader in education,” Albers said. “Digital classrooms and textbooks are the great equalizer for all students and an important step to achieving this goal.”

SB 89, the Digital Classroom Act, was passed during the 2015 legislative session and signed into law May 6 by Gov. Nathan Deal.

Each local board of education is also encouraged to provide students with their own laptop, tablet, or other wireless device or allow them to bring their own to the classroom.

Sen. Albers was accompanied on the visit by fellow Senators Marty Harbin (R-Tyrone), Fran Millar (R-Atlanta), Judson Hill (R- Marietta) and Bruce Thompson (R- White).

Sen. John Albers serves as chairman of the State and Local Government Operations. He represents the 56th Senate District, which includes portions of North Fulton and Cherokee counties. He may be reached at his office at 404-463-8055 or by email at john.albers@senate.ga.gov.
