UPDATE: Police Charge Suspect with Felony Murder after Victim Dies

Police have upgraded charges to felony murder against a 26-year-old Alpharetta man after a victim of apparent domestic violence died from a gunshot wound to the head.

The suspect had been charged with aggravated battery after Sanaa Merani was taken to the hospital for injuries she suffered in the incident. She died in North Fulton Hospital from those injuries, leading Alpharetta police to charge Alamin Nanji with felony murder for allegedly shooting the victim.

Police responded to a call at 5:40 a.m. Oct. 16 to Alpharetta 911 dispatchers from a neighbor on Jefferson Way who said he heard arguing coming from an adjacent apartment, said George Gordon, Alpharetta Department of Public Safety spokesman.

Alpharetta police found a female victim who was critically injured, Gordon said. A male suspect was taken into custody for questioning. The female victim was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment. Nanji was taken into custody at the scene and charged with aggravated battery following questioning

Since Tuesday morning the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigative Division has been conducting the investigation involving what they have termed a domestic violence incident that resulted in a female sustaining significant injury.
Alamin Nanji, 26 is being held without bond in Fulton County Jail on a charge of felony murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Both charges are felonies

The arrest information was supplied by the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety. It does not indicate a conviction.
