Fulton Science Academy Hosts Georgia Mineral Society President

Sixth and seventh grade science students at Fulton Science Academy Private School enjoyed a visit from Bill Waggener, president of the Georgia Mineral Society.

Mr. Waggener gave both grades a refresher on rocks and minerals.

Sixth graders then discussed volcanoes, plate tectonics, and igneous rocks. They also participated in an activity comparing gas bubbles in honey and vegetable oil to see how the bubbles would differ in substances with different viscosities. This mimics what happens to magma in volcanoes.

Seventh grade students discussed fossils and how they form. Students enjoyed observing many different types of fossils. Students determined if they rocks were a fossil, how they were formed and type of environmental clues indicated by the fossil.

Thank you, Mr. Waggener.
