Hundreds Take Part in National Night Out at Wills Park

The Alpharetta Public Safety Department was joined by Milton Police and Fire departments in meeting the public and educating local residents about safety

K-9 units found drugs and suspects, SWAT teams captured "armed" men at the end of a car chase and free food was eaten by everybody. Tuesday night was time for National Night Out at the Wills Park Equestrian Center.

Members of the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety were joined by some of their counterparts in the Milton Police and Fire departments in demonstrating the skills they use to keep local residents safe.

This year's event included a bounce house for children, an interactive fire safety house simulator, displays of police and fire vehicles and SWAT demonstrations and Alpharetta's SWAT vehicle. There will also be firefighter scenarios, technical rescue operations, police K9 dog scenarios and numerous other police and fire activities.

If you live near Wills Park and didn't know about the event, you might have been startled to hear what sounded like gunfire, a police chase and the sounds of K-9 units bringing "suspects" to the ground. But it was all part of National Night Out, with the SWAT team and K-9 units cooperating to demonstrate what it takes to safely end that scenario.

Hot dogs, hamburgers – even veggie burgers – Chick-fil-A chicken sandwiches and barbecue filled local residents stomachs and ice cream and cookies satisfied sweet tooths.
