blessed the ground today, May 25, at the spot on the Alpharetta campus where its new high school will be built.

Students, faculty, parents and local officials came to the campus at the corner of Bethany Bend and Cogburn Road–across the road from the new Cambridge High and next door to –for the ceremony.

The Rev. Dr. Michael T. McQueen, senior pastor of St. James United Methodist Church, led the ground blessing, part of which can be heard in the accompanying video.

Shortly after the Ground Blessing event, construction will begin on the 45,162-square-foot Craftsman-style architecture classroom building that fits into the master plan of the 70-acre campus. The building contains 17 classrooms, 2 science labs, 2 art classrooms, a music suite, commons area and flexible spaces to meet the needs of how students need to prepare for their futures with innovative skills in creative problem solving within a collaborative learning environment.

A unique feature of the building is the Kendrick Center for Life Impact that serves as a comfortable student gathering area with additional collaborative space, kitchen, snack bar and fireplace and resources for a distinctive program that will assist students to identify their passions and talents that will tie in with mentorships, internships and college placement services.

The school is scheduled to open for the school year in August 2013.

King's Ridge is a preK-12th, non-denominational, independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school. In the school year that's just ending 713 students were enrolled. The first graduation class was in 2007.
