Get in the left lane of Milton Avenue if you are trying to drive east from Main Street. The City of Alpharetta is closing one eastbound travel lane on Academy Street between Main Street and Haynes Bridge Road this week due to utility construction.
The right eastbound lane of Milton Avenue between Old Roswell Street and Main Street will be designated for right turning traffic only, according to a release this morning from the city. These changes will remain in effect for approximately six months.
“We expect little traffic impact to result from these changes,” said Pete Sewczwicz, Alpharetta’s director of Engineering and Public Works. “The lane being closed was really a dedicated right turn lane onto the old Haynes Bridge Road, and a large portion of it has been closed for a few months now. The small section of Milton Avenue that is being dedicated right turn only is largely used for that purpose now.”
Alpharetta City Hall, which lost parking when City Center construction began, has lost another handful of parking spaces. The lane closure will also require the closure of the parking spaces located on the north side of Alpharetta City Hall on Academy Street. But temporary signage will be put in place to guide customers to additional parking located on Academy Street across from Alpharetta First Baptist Church.
