On June 16 at 12:15 a.m., a citizen called police to report a possible burglary at Oglethorpe Package Store, 712 Oglethorpe Ave. Upon officers’ arrival, they observed the front doorglass broken out. Contact was made with an individual who responded on behalf of the business. Video footage revealed a male throwing something into the glass breaking it, and then entering the business taking several items. The investigation continues.
Around 6:15 a.m. June 15 while on patrol, an officer saw several subjects outside a Garnett Ridge Dr residence. He knew one of the subjects had an outstanding warrant. The Sheriff’s Office was notified and deputies responded. When back up and the deputies arrived, contact was made with the residents. While searching the residence for the subject with the warrant, an officer saw another male sitting on the couch. Beside him was a stool with what appeared to be loose marijuana and a corner baggie containing suspected marijuana on top. A digital scale and box of plastic bags were found on a TV stand. That male, Marcus Antonio Strong, was arrested. During a search of his person, a number of pills were found in his pocket. Strong, 35, Cherry Cir, was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Drugs in Original Container, Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule III/IV/V, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I/II.
Officers responded to a complaint of drug activity in the area of E Carver Dr and Zatella Ln around 1:50 a.m. June 16. Upon arrival, they saw a vehicle parked on Zatella. Contact was made with the two male occupants. As the driver exited the vehicle, the officer saw him drop a plastic bag with the corners missing onto the seat. The vehicle was searched and a plastic bag containing a white powdered substance and additional plastic bags with the corners missing were found. Rodney Lanier Smith, 45, Hollow Ridge Dr, was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine and Drug Offense within 1,000’ of Housing. The other male was not charged.
Around 9:30 p.m. June 15 officers responded to a hit and run accident on Lexington Rd near E Meadow Dr. Investigation revealed Vivian Williams of Coleridge Ct was crossing Lexington Rd from E Meadow Dr to the south side of the road. She was struck by an east bound vehicle and the driver left the scene. Williams was transported to Athens Regional Medical Center. The driver, Edwin Omar Rivera, 21, Scandia Cir, returned to the scene approximately an hour and 15 minutes after the accident. After talking with officers, Rivera was arrested and charged with Hit and Run and Serious Injury by Vehicle. Rivera was driving a 2004 Toyota 4-Runner.
Between 2 p.m. June 13 and 9:20 p.m. June 15 a Rolling Ridge Dr residence was burglarized. A TV, video game system, video games, shoes, a baseball cap, cash, and clothing were stolen. The total value was $1,748.
