University of Georgia Students Charged in Fake ID Ring

Three University of Georgia students have been charged in a fake ID ring, The Athens Banner-Herald reports.

The newspaper says investigators took out 56 warrants charging one student as the ringleader and two others as distributors. Nelson Agaturuchi Nwannunu, 20; Tom Lennart Larsson, 20; and Zain Haider Abidi, 18 are facing felony charges of manufacturing and distributing fake IDs.

In a separate case, two students, one from UGA and the other enrolled at in Watkinsville, are believed to be the ringleaders of a group that distributed more than 1,000 fake IDs to students.

That group, which has been under investigation since August 2011, allegedly charged up to $100 for counterfeit driver’s licenses from several states that college students used to get into bars.

No charges have been filed yet in that case, the Banner-Herald reports.
