Known Bookstore Closes After 30 Years In GA

ATLANTA, GA — Barnes and Noble, a longtime bookstore that has called 2952 Cobb Pkwy. SE home for 30 years, closed Wednesday.

After announcing the permanent closure in June due to lease constraints, the local hangout spot for avid readers shut its doors to customers for the last time at 9 p.m.

"To all BN Cumberland employees of past and present, we thank you," Barnes and Noble wrote in its Instagram story Wednesday.

In preparation, Barnes and Noble offered a 5 books for $25 sale and sold few items that once adorned its cafe.

The bookstore previously revealed it was "forced" to end its lease, leading to the closure.

The building housing Barnes and Noble was reportedly purchased for $12.5 million in December 2024 by RaceTrac, whose headquarters in the 200 block of Gallery Drive Southeast.

The fuel giant planned to transform what will soon be the former-Barnes and Noble into a new store and Potbelly Sandwich Shop, a spokesperson told the Marietta Daily Journal in the past.

This is much to the dismay of local residents who reportedly opposed the opening of a new RaceTrac in the area.

RaceTrac currently operates a fuel center at Spring Road, not too far away from the Barnes and Noble.

The bookstore previously said it is searching for a new location in the Cobb County community.

Until then, book lovers may visit Barnes and Noble's new location at 1205 Caroline St. NE in Atlanta's Edgewood community.
