Record Lows Set Across Georgia

While temps across Georgia were expected to drop into the teens overnight Tuesday, warm air is on the way to the state beginning Wednesday.

Record Lows Set Across Georgia
It comes as little surprise to anyone who ventured outside into the extreme cold Tuesday morning that in Georgia and across the South and East, record temps were shattered like ice.

According to AccuWeather.com, Atlanta dipped to a frozen 6 degrees, its coldest weather on this date in 44 years. And it really felt like 11 below zero on Tuesday morning.

Other state lows set for this date in addition to Atlanta at 6 degrees (previous record low 10); were 7 in Athens; (12); 12 in Augusta (15); and 19 in Savannah (21).

Across portions of the central, eastern and southern USA, almost 50 daily record lows were set Tuesday. A Columbus man was among six nationally who has died during the record deep freeze that was extreme enough to close schools, prompt the opening of emergency shelters, and cause significant flight delays.

While temps across Georgia  ere expected to drop into the teens overnight Tuesday, warm air is on the way to the state. Wednesday could see temps top freezing by lunchtime and top out in the low 40s.

By Saturday and Sunday, highs will be in the low 60s with lows in the high 40s and maybe 50 degrees. But the chance of rain both weekend days is currently near 70 percent.
