Brookhaven Commission Cancels Thursday Night Meeting

The commission's chair says final recommendations to the new mayor, city council could be made as soon as tomorrow night.

Brookhaven Commission Cancels Thursday Night Meeting

The Governor's Brookhaven Commission has cancelled its regular meeting set for tonight, and may call a special meeting as soon as tomorrow night to finalize its recommendations to the new mayor and city council elected earlier this week.

Commission chair Ben Vinson made the announcement around 3 pm Thursday afternoon.

"We are canceling our regular meeting for tonight, and will instead focus on completing the evaluation process such that we can make final recommendations to the council members and thus carry out the transition," Vinson said in a statement.

"My intention is that we will hold a special called meeting - maybe even tomorrow night - to adopt our final recommendations and take official action to deliver to the council members."

The Brookhaven Commission was set up by Gov. Nathan Deal after Brookhaven voted to incorporate, and has been compiling information to present to the mayor and city council regarding office space recommendations and candidates to fill the city's personnel needs.
