APS Ethics Commission Clears BOE Chairman McDaniel

The Atlanta Public Schools Ethics Commission has cleared Board of Education Chairman Reuben McDaniel of alleged ethics violations regarding hiring decisions at North Atlanta High.

In December, the Ethics Commission voted to investigate allegations that McDaniel interfered with the hiring decisions regarding NAHS language arts teacher Amy Durham.

McDaniel told board members via email he would look into accusations of racism at the school.

In a letter from a group of anonymous parents several of the school's educators and key administrators were named in fostering a culture of institutional racism.

Amy Durham was not mentioned in the letter, according to the Buckhead Reporter.

NAHS Principal Mark MyGrant and David Durham, Amy's husband, believe that allegations of racism caused Amy Durham to withdraw from the hiring process.

She resigned in October after being accused of racially discriminating against students.

Buckhead Patch will update this story with more information and details about the investigation as they become available.
