Buckhead resident and GOP activist Eric Tanenblatt has been a Mitt Romney supporter since Romney’s run for president in 2008.

So joining the Georgia delegation to vote for Romney as the Republican party’s nominee for president was a special moment.

“Last night was an incredible start to the convention,” Tanenblatt said during a phone interview from Tampa on Wednesday morning.

Tanenblatt was the Chief of Staff to former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue. He now leads the National Government Affairs Group at the law firm McKenna Long & Aldridge. This is his fourth time serving as a delegate to the Republican National Convention.

Tanenblatt said the convention is off to a strong start, and he praised Tuesday’s slate of speakers, including Romney’s wife – “Hands down, Ann Romney stole the night.” –  New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.

“Everyone here is very excited, pumped up and looking forward to the next two nights.”

Half a dozen of the delegates to the Republican convention have ties to Buckhead.

“Buckhead has been a very active community with respect to Republican politics,” Tanenblatt noted.

He said that as a group, the delegates from Buckhead believe that Romney’s experience in the private sector and turning around the troubled Salt Lake City Olympic games show that he has the leadership skills the U.S. needs in its next president.

“I think all of us feel the same way - that our country lacks leadership at a critical time,” he said.

“We need a person who we believe has what it takes to get the economy turned around. He’s the man for the moment.”

Other Republican delegates from Buckhead include:

Fred Cooper – CEO of Cooper Capital and a former chairman of the Georgia Republican Party

Jim Edenfield – CEO of American Software and a major Republican fundraiser

Randy Evans - Republican National Committeeman from Georgia, Chair of the Financial Institutions practice at the law firm McKenna Long & Aldridge

Kelly Loeffler – Vice President of Investor Relations and Corporate Communications at Intercontinental Exchange, Co-owner of the Atlanta Dream women’s basketball team, and a major fundraiser

Frank Strickland – Finance chairman for the Georgia GOP and a partner in the Strickland Brockington Lewis law firm in Midtown
