On Wednesday, two patrons of the Northside branch of Atlanta-Fulton Public Library at 3295 Northside Parkway were carjacked at gunpoint around 5:30 p.m.
The Mt. Paran Northside Citizens Association posted on its website an email about the incident from one of the carjacking victims. Major Van Hobbs, Atlanta Police Zone 2 Commander, confirmed that the incident occurred as the victim described in her email.
The victim was putting books in the trunk of her car when two teenagers, who were only described as African-American, approached her and demanded her purse.
"One had a gun to my face," the woman wrote.
At the same time, another pair of teenagers (who have not been described except as African-Americans) demanded the keys and wallet of another library patron on the steps of the library, the woman described.
The teenagers drove off in the woman's Lexus and in the man's Acura. One of the vehicles has been recovered, according to a response from Hobbs.
"I am ok but a little frazzled," the woman wrote.
Hobbs said he is unable to give more details about the incident since it is an open and pending investigation, with several leads being followed.
