Linton Hopkins Receives James Beard Nomination

Owner of Buckhead's Restaurant Eugene and Holeman & Finch Public House receives honor for fourth straight year

Linton Hopkins Receives James Beard Nomination

Linton Hopkins, owner of Buckhead's and Public House, on Monday received a 2011 James Beard Award nomination for best chef in the Southeast, according to the James Beard Foundation.

The nomination was Hopkins' fourth straight. The Beard Awards are called the Oscars of the food world.

"It’s a great honor," Hopkins said Monday afternoon. "It's wonderful to be a part of a community of chefs that care about regional American food."  He said that a lot of the nominees for the Southeastern award are good friends of his and share his mission to produce quality regional cuisine.

Hopkins chuckled when asked if he thought he would win the award at last this year. "You never can tell," he said. "It's anybody’s ballgame. I really believe it's a marathon business, not a sprint business. It's just being there year after year that matters."

The winners in a variety of categories will be announced at the James Beard Foundation awards ceremony May 9 at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall in New York.
