Two Weeks Left to Register to Vote in July Primary

Fulton County encourages residents to register to vote in the July 31 primary.

Two Weeks Left to Register to Vote in July Primary

Samuel P. Westmoreland, Director of the Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections, reminds residents who intend to vote in the General Primary on July 31, that the voter registration deadline is 5 p.m. on Monday, July 2, two weeks from today.

Westmoreland encourages new Fulton County residents to register to vote and recommends that all registered voters ensure that their information on file with the Department is up-to-date.

To register to vote in the state of Georgia, you must satisfy these requirements: 1) be a citizen of the United States; 2) be a legal resident of Georgia and of the county in which you wish to vote; 3) be at least 18 years of age on Election Day. Once the Department receives the completed voter registration application, precinct cards are mailed within two to three weeks of that receipt.

You can register to vote or update your voter information at one of three County offices: 1) the Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections (130 Peachtree Street, SW, Atlanta, GA 30303); 2) the Fulton County North Annex (7741 Roswell Road, Atlanta, GA 30350); 3) the Fulton County South Annex (5600 Stonewall Tell Road, College Park, GA 30349).

Early voting will take place at the Peachtree St. location, Monday through Friday, July 9-27 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Advance voting will also take place at that same location on Saturday, July 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Voter registration forms are also available at the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office and all Atlanta-Fulton County Public Library branches. You can also download a voter registration form at www.fultoncountyga.gov/elections/

If you have recently moved into Fulton County, you will need to re-register as a Fulton County voter. The same form is used for voter registration, address change and/or name change.

If you are registering for the first time in Georgia, you must provide one of the following forms of identification:

  • Any valid state or federal government issued photo ID, including a FREE Voter ID Card issued by the county registrar’s office or the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS);
  • A Georgia Driver’s License, even if expired;
  • A valid employee photo ID from any branch, department, agency, or entity of the U.S. Government, Georgia, or any county, municipality, board, authority or other entity of this state;
  • A valid U.S. passport ID;
  • A valid U.S. military photo ID;
  • A valid tribal photo ID;
  • A copy of a current utility bill;
  • A bank statement;
  • A government check;
  • A paycheck; or
  • Any other government document that shows the name and address of the individual

For Fulton County residents who are reluctant to register as voters because they are concerned that it increases their chances of being called for jury duty. Mr. Westmoreland seeks to dispel that myth: “If you obtain a driver’s license, your likelihood of being called for jury duty is at least the same as registering to vote.”
