Barn Destroyed in East Cherokee Fire

The fire started just after 7 p.m. Thursday off Birmingham Highway.

A barn was destroyed by a fire Thursday evening in the extreme southeastern part of Cherokee County.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services to a fire call around 7:11 p.m. at 121 Allmond Lane, which sits off Highway 372/Birmingham Highway near the Cherokee-Fulton county line. While the property is in Cherokee County, it utilizes an Alpharetta zip code.

Cherokee fire spokesperson Tim Cavender said a neighbor reported ”seeing smoke coming from the barn and thought the owner may have been burning some brush.”

The neighbor decided to investigate the smoke, and he noticed flames coming from the barn.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they were greeted with heavy flames and smoke coming from the 1,000-square-foot barn, which was built in 2006.

Fortunately, there were no animals inside the barn, as the owner stated that he has not had any horses for a few years, Cavender said.

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire, but the structure could not be saved. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
