Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to a single vehicle accident on Friday afternoon on Georgia Highway 372, east of Ball Ground, near the Etowah River Bridge.

Emergency service personnel received the call shortly after 5:30 PM and responded to the scene of the accident. The accident involved a Ford Mustang that had apparently left the road, went down an embankment and struck some trees. Upon impact, the car was cut in half, ejecting the driver from the vehicle. According to Medcon operator, Dean Hege, the driver, a female in her mid 40s, had orthopedic injuries, plus internal injuries as well. She was life-flighted by helicopter to Atlanta Medical Center in critical condition.

Both lanes of Highway 372 were blocked until the wreckage was cleared. The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol.
