Update: Two Additional County Compactor Sites Reopen on Sundays, Jan. 8
Due to the success and positive feedback from Bartow County citizens, sole commissioner Steve Taylor has authorized the Solid Waste Department to open two more compactor sites on Sunday, according to Director Rip Conner.
The Casey Lake compactor site at 4792 Joe Frank Harris Parkway in Adairsville and the Taylorsville-Macedonia compactor site at 1214 Macedonia Road in Taylorsville, will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The new schedule began Jan. 5,2014.
Officials request citizens to limit their debris to household garbage so they don’t run out of space in the other bins.
Original Report: Four Bartow Trash Compactor Sites Reopen on Sundays, Dec. 12
The Bartow County Department of Solid Waste has announced the following garbage compactor sites are now open on Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. for solid waste disposal and recycling:
- Ladd’s, 40 Ladd’s Mountain Road in Cartersville;
- Landfill, 36 Allatoona Dam Road in Cartersville;
- Cedar Creek, 15 Cedar Creek Road in Cartersville; and
- Industrial Park, 48 Industrial Drive in Cartersville.
All of Bartow's solid waste compactor sites for four years had been shut down on Sundays due to budget constraints. They remain closed on Wednesdays.
The move signals the department's and county's budget may be easing up, follows a property tax hike approved by Commissioner Steve Taylor, and results from citizens' request, reports The Daily Tribune News. Officials say more of the county's total 11 compactor sites could reopen on Sundays in the future.
They ask that residents limit debris to recycled material and household garbage on Sundays, according to Rip Conner, director of Bartow County Solid Waste.
