Cartersville officers responded just after 7 p.m. Aug. 3 to the hotel’s pool area, which was taped off, according to an incident report released by the Cartersville Police Department.
“I also noticed a white male laying on his back on the side of the pool that was partially covered by a white sheet,” the responding officer wrote in his report.
Brad Cothran, spokesperson with Bartow County Emergency Medical Services, said the crews discovered Hilton, who showed “no signs of life” at the time of their arrival.
Cartersville police spokesperson Lieutenant Mike Bettikofer said the victim is approximately in his 50s.
Both Cartersville police and the Bartow County coroner are investigating the death, which appears to have been caused by a medical issue or possible drowning, Bettikofer added.
Coroner Joel Guyton said an autopsy has yet to be performed on Hilton, as he is waiting on space to become available at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Lab.
