A Cartersville Schools official said the pending resignation of high school Principal Jay Floyd was not initiated by system administrators.

administrators are on the hunt for a new principal following a recent announcement, one they say was not initiated by the school system.

Current Principal Jay Floyd the system in June, but—except for confirming the announcement—declined to elaborate.

Dispelling rumors Floyd's contract would not be renewed for the 2012-2013 school year or that his expected resignation would not be by choice, Assistant Superintendent Ken Clouse indicated Floyd has been in talks with system officials throughout this school year about what would be his last term as CHS principal.

"Mr. Floyd has indicated he is not going to be back next year. He is pursuing some other things. It's that point in his career that he would like some different kinds of experience...so we're advertising currently for that position," Clouse added. "He's just ready to do some other things."

Posted on TeachGeorgia.org, a description of the principal position and related information indicates consideration of applicants and/or interviews will begin "as soon as a list of qualified applicants is established." Officials expect a large number of responses for the job that begins July 1.

"We're thankful [Floyd] let us know early enough that we can get out there and find an appropriate candidate," Clouse said, "and we told [Floyd] that we'd help him as far as references or anything that we need to do so that he can pursue what he needs to do."

Last year in July, citing a personal decision to stay in Bartow County, Floyd with the Chattooga County school system, according to . He was of that system, which is about an hour's drive northwest of Cartersville.

Assistant principal of from 2001 to 2003, Floyd has served as principal since 2004, according to The Summerville News. Previous to his employment with the local school system, Floyd held positions with Dalton Public Schools. He also serves or has severed on a number of boards and committees.
