Atlanta Technical College Receives 200K Bank of America Grant

College's foundation will use funds to help students pay for tuition, books, other supplies.

Atlanta Technical College Receives 200K Bank of America Grant

Bank of America Corp.'s charitable foundation awarded the Atlanta Technical College Foundation with a grant that the combines leadership training and $200,000 in unrestricted funds toward its mission.

The award, part of Bank of America's Neighborhood Builder program, highlights high-performing nonprofits that have made a significant impact in the bank’s priority funding areas of housing, jobs and hunger relief. Since 2004, Bank of America has invested more than $165 million through the program, recognized over 730 nonprofits and trained nearly 1,500 nonprofit leaders.

The North Fulton Community Charities was similarly recognized.

“Nonprofits provide much needed services in metro Atlanta, but too often lack the opportunity to invest in their own long-term growth and development,” Geri Thomas, Bank of America's Georgia president, said in a statement. “By recognizing North Fulton Community Charities and Atlanta Technical College Foundation as Neighborhood Builders, we know that they are poised to make an even greater impact in our community.”

Atlanta Technical College readies its students Georgians for high-demand occupations such as bioscience, nursing, commercial truck driving, aviation maintenance and supply chain management. Funds from the grant will toward supporting students' financial challenges.

The Atlanta Technical College Foundation will use the award from the Bank of America grant to help students pay for tuition, books, supplies and public transportation as well as support student activities.

“Our mission at Atlanta Technical College is workforce development,” Alvetta Peterman Thomas, Atlanta Technical College's president, said in a statement. “With the Bank of America grant, we will be able to ensure that more of our students have the support they need to graduate and become successful in the world of work.”
