Healthiest Again! Forsyth Named Georgia's Healthiest County

For the second straight year, a study from the University of Wisconsin has determined that Forsyth is Georgia’s healthiest county.

According to the 2014 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation County Health Rankings & Roadmaps study, Forsyth was followed by Oconee, Gwinnett, and Cherokee counties.

The study utilized a rankings system to measure each county’s health, taking into account such factors as obesity and smoking and alcohol consumption ranks.

Socioeconomic factors were also included, such as the number of residents with health insurance, high school graduation rates, and access to healthy foods, parks and clean air.

Of note is Forsyth's child poverty rate of 8 percent, which is significantly lower than the state’s average of 27 percent. Also, single-parent homes in the county total 13 percent, compared to Georgia's 36 percent total.
