Forsyth County firefighters responded to a structure fire at a townhouse located in Pilgrim Lake Subdivision off Pilgrim Mill Road in Cumming late Thursday night.

The fire was reported between 11 p.m. and midnight on Pilgrim Lake Drive. A resident of the community told Cumming Patch, she heard the sirens from the fire trucks in the neighborhood around 11:35 p.m.

Capt. Jason Shivers with the Forsyth County Fire Department said the fire was contained to the one unit.

At this time it doesn't appear that the next-door unit sustained any damage, though Shivers said the unit may have some smoke and water damage.

A woman who said she was the homeowner and did not want to be identified said two of her dogs were in the townhouse. The dogs had not been found after the fire. She also said that her home was in foreclosure and that she was in bankruptcy.

A friend, who also did not want to be identified, said the fire broke out on the top level. She said the homeowner was on this level of the townhouse asleep and she was on the first floor.

At least seven fire engines along with several Forsyth County Sheriff's patrol cars were on the scene.

The fire is currently under investigation. Stay with Cumming Patch for updates.
