"We can speculate" the aircraft was attempting to land on the highway when it clipped a vehicle, a spokesman for the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said, in a report provided by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The National Transportation Safety Board was reportedly investigating Saturday evening.

Witnesses told 11Alive that they could tell there was something wrong with the plane, which had lowered its landing gear, dumped fuel and circled around Browns Bridge Road before hitting an embankment.

With Route 369 shut down, traffic was detoured at Waldrip Road around the crash site.
