Police: Skeletal Remains Match Dismembered Torso Found in 2009

A set of match a dismembered torso found in July 2009, according to Gwinnett County Police Department homicide investigators and the Gwinnett County Medical Examiners Office.

An individual walking in a heavily wooded area off Brown Road on Jan. 5 found a human skull and scattered skeletal remains a few hundred yards off Brown Road between Sunny Hill Road and Morgan Road. The entire area is located off Gravel Springs Road, a short distance from the Mall of Georgia. The dismembered torso found in 2009 was discovered in an area off Woodward Mill Road near Satellite Boulevard, approximately five miles from where the skull was located.

According to a GCPD press release, the medical examiner believes the remains are likely those of a Hispanic adult male between 20 and 40 years of age.

“The cause of death can’t be determined at this time, however based on the evidence from the remains recovered, the medical examiner has ruled the manner of death a homicide,” said GCPD public information officer Cpl. Ed Ritter in a released statement.

DNA analysis will be conducted on both sets of remains and the results will be placed on the National Missing Person’s registry. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation also plans to do a facial reconstruction of the deceased in an attempt to determine the man’s identity.

Police ask anyone with information about the case to contact the Gwinnett County Police Homicide Unit at 770-513-5300 or 770-513-5700.
